03 · Koinobori
An old legend tells of a carp that swims up powerful currents, leaps a waterfall and turns into a dragon. It has become a symbol of courage and perseverance.
For Kodomo no Hi, Children’s Day, Japanese families hang koinobori outside their homes. Hundreds can also be seen flying above rivers.
A Japanese windsock shaped like a carp, the koinobori comes alive in the wind, which enters through the mouth, fills the fabric and spreads the fins. The carp then seems to swim through the sky.
In a garden, on a balcony or in a bedroom, a koinobori also finds its place, for the pleasure of its colours and its design.
What does a koinobori symbolise?
Simulated setting04 · BCDG
Behind the koinobori signed BCDG are Catherine and Alain: two different perspectives, ideas that do not always agree, and the pleasure of creating together.
A landscape, a colour, a memory from a journey: sometimes that is all it takes for a new drawing to begin.
Every carp has its own character. And its own story.
